Rejoinders / Letters to the Editor

Please publish MG on a weekly basis... The paper has large circulation and important issues of community don't get access in merely two editions monthly. So it is humbly requested to your goodself that kindly accept my suggestion. Thanking in anticipation.

MG: Thank you for your feedback. We too wish we had the necessary resources to publish it as a weekly.

Very happy to receive so many issues of MG and to catch up with real stories behind happenings which are conveniently presented in painted colours in so-called mainstream media. Long Live MG!

Modi in Masjid

Media created a hype not over  Modi visiting UAE but over Modi visiting a mosque there. Top world leaders, kings, heads of states visit mosques. Yet, Modi's visit to Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi caught media attention. Why? Because he had approved three thousand innocent Muslims' killing in Gujarat in 2002 by announcing reaction to action. He blocked minority schemes in Gujarat, did not accept skull cap during his tenure as chief minister. God made him visit a mosque. Did he repent there or was it sheer symbolism — Allah alone knows. Vajpaee had said 'kis muh se videsh jayenge' after 2002 Gujrat massacre.              S. Haque, Patna

Demonising  of Aurangzeb

Demonising of Aurangzeb as cruel and fanatic does not help.. In ancient times succession often led to patricide and even matricide. This was true of Rome and medieval Europe. In India apart from Ashoka, Ajatshatru the king of Magadha had jailed his father Bimbisar and murdered him by not providing him food and water. There are other instances and the list may grow longer. In addition,  Ajatshatru had put restrictions on the movements of Buddha who was his contemporary. Unlike medieval times the ancient history is not elaborately recorded and what might actually have happened or events taken place are unknown. What is known is mainly from religious texts or literature of those periods. This provides alibi to those who paint the ancient preMuslim past in rainbow colours.  Sometime back we were told by the Great Man of India that we have suffered slavery for the last 12 centuries, thereby showing Muslims as aliens. If we were rainbow people, great, gorgeous, powerful, all knowing, and invincible, how is it we remained slaves for almost a millennium? Yunus Chitalwala

Mulayam Singh Yadav and BJP

Despite Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav's tall talks of his being a great champion of socialism, standard bearer of secularism and great crusader against communalism, his decision of quitting the grant secular alliance of Bihar is nothing but a clear move of his closeness and having secret deal with BJP which is implementing the RSS agenda of making India a Hindu country and establishing a Hindu state in the country. The following instances justify the contention that Mulayam Singh has a secret deal with BJP. Mulayam Singh Government during it's Chief Ministership of Mulayam Singh submitted and affidavit to Allahabad High Court that M/s L. K. Advani, Murli Manhohar Joshi and Uma Bharati were not responsible for the demolition of Babri Mosque. Another example of Mulayam Singh's closeness to BJP is that in UP during the Samajwadi Party Govt Madrasas were considered to be centres of terrorist activities and only those Madarsas got Govt. grant where a certificate had been issued by the local administration that were not centre of terrorist activities. The administrative machinery of the present SP Govt. like previous Sp Govt. is full of anti Muslim bias. A number of horrible anti-Muslim riots have taken place under present Govt. and Muzzafarnagar riots are the worst example and no action taken against the culprits and Muslims have suffered heavily. Similarly no action has been taken against PAC which was responsible for committing atrocities on Muslims. There is not a single Urdu-medium school in UP which again proves the closeness of SP with BJP. A Patna Convention he opposed Lalu Prasad Yadav resolution demanding resignation of Narindra Modi from the Chief Ministership on account of Muslim genocide in 2002. The last session of the Parliament had been successfully stalled by the opposition led by the Congress but Mulayam Singh left the opposition. Prime Minister Modi is full of praise for Mulayam Singh and describes a great democrat and this goes to fully justify this conclusion that Mulayam Singh is a staunch ally of BJP. Mr. Mulayam Singh has been following the footsteps of his mentor Dr. Lohia who had joined hands with Jansangh, the predecessors of BJP to dislodge the Congress from power.

AR Rehman

AR Rehman, the music director composed music in a film by the celebrated Iranian director Majid Majidi which has run into some controversy. The Mumbai-based Raza Academy has raised an objection over the screening of the firm. However, the Raza Academy lost no time in issuing Fatwa against the music director. The Fatwa by the Raza Academy against A. R. Rehman is not on a strong footing as the music director has nothing to do with the theme, essence or virtue of the film. Muhammad Rafi sang quite a few Bhajans and Lata Mangeshkar sang a lot of songs related to Muslim faith or culture but this did not change their faith. Their focus is on the art of singing and nothing else and so they are against A. R. Rehman. This fatwa politics did not spare the ace tennis star Sania Mirza who has to wear shorts while playing according to the rules of the game. As far as Rehman is concerned he did not comment on the fatwa by the Raza Academy but expressed that he played the music in a good faith. The matter did not end there. Now the extremist Hindu organisations jumped into fray with the slogan of gharwapsi of AR Rehman or welcoming him into the Hindu fold. The extremist Hindu organisations have every right to propagate or spread their religion but rushing with the demand of gharwapsi is to spread the communal venom and practice the divisive politics.               Adv. Memories of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

Did judiciary do justice to Muslims ever?

Indian judiciary is watched by the world. Former SC judge Markandey Katju has said that Yakub Memon's conviction was based on very weak evidence. He said he carefully studied the case and explained the conviction was based on retracted confessions and alleged recoveries. Mr. Katju opined that 'The truth is that our police usually fails to nab the real culprits so the best thing to do in terrorist cases is to implicate half a dozen Muslims.' Justice H S Bedi, SC lawyer KTS Tulsi too stood against Yakub death sentence. Can Mr. Katju cite any judicial decision which did justice to Muslims? Babri Masjid, Batla House, reservation to Muslims, Shah Bano, Hashimpura, Hari Masjid… Now, Pragya, Purohit and Pandey et al will be set free.  Amit Shah, Vanzara etc are already free. Afzal Guru was hanged to satisfy the 'collective conciense'. Judicial activism surrenders when it comes to  saffron power.       S. Haque, Patna

Kundu Committee Report 2

Within a decade this was the third committee appointed by governments to report about the "Socio- Economic and Educational Status" of Muslims. First it was Sachar Committee after that Ranganath Misra Commission and lastly Kundu Committee. Every committee or commission has reported about the pathetic conditions of Muslims which has gone even below Scheduled Castes. They have not only recommended reservation for Muslims but also framing of law for non-discrimination on religious(racial) grounds but no action has been taken by any government though the first two were put up and accepted by Parliament. They have also suggested to make law or bring Muslims under the umbrella of 'Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes protection (from atrocities) act 1989. However, all these remain on paper and have been dumped as waste paper or put on back burner. These reports have very well brought the false propaganda of 'Appeasement of Muslims'. In-front of the public... It has become a very common quote that while people from other religions get beneficial schemes and incentives from government for their upliftment and empowerment, the Muslims get Inquiry Commissions about their condition. The Socio-Economic and Educational condition of Muslims has already gone alarmingly low and if no drastic action is taken for their upliftment and empowerment as suggested in the reports, the condition will further deteriorate and may go beyond repair. The double standard of governments has already created multi-dimensional problems for the country and any further negligence or delay will not be in the interest of the country because the Muslims are feeling that they have become stranger in their own country. No country in world can progress if it leaves behind its 180 million populations in the ruin illiteracy, poverty and hunger.          Afzal Ahmad Khan, Lucknow

Conspiracy to impose Hindutva

Samjhauta blast and other two blasts' main accused Swami Aseemanand's bail is not opposed by BJP government. Fake encounter accused, all police officers, are enjoying BJP's achhe din. Yoga is imposed nationally and now lakhs of yoga teachers would comfortably live on BJP government's pay-roll. Sushma Swaraj and her family got money from fugitive Lalit Modi.  When Rahul Gandhi asked who initiated to declare Gita as national book, she started a national poll through net survey. Naqvi, Hussain and Heptullah etc are enjoying BJP's power.

Why Tariq Anwar has to bite dust?

NCP leader Tariq Anwar quit the grand alliance of JD (U), RJD and Congress in Biihar because his party was given only three MLA quota for the next assembly elections, saying the grand alliance doesn't need NCP and the alliance doesn't need "Muslim votes" too. Mr Anwar demanded quota for his party but during 15 years of NCP rule in Maharastra and 10 years under the UPA government at the Centre, did he demand demand justice to Muslim, i.e., reservation? Now he is begging quota for his party. "Mr. Tariq Anwar, it is your NCP in Maharastra which has done the greatest damage to Muslim image" said S. M. Mushfirr (ex-IPS) in his article in MG (1-15 April 2013). The Article exposed NCP government's injustices. Did Mr Anwar pay any heed? Now he has declared himself a champion of Muslims.                S. Haque, Patna

HC imposed Rs. 10 lakh on BJP

Calcutta HC rejected the petition filed by BJP to take action against speeches by Mamta Banerjee and by another Trinmool MP. HC rejected BJP application and imposed a Rs. 10 lakh fine on BJP for misguiding the court. This Rs. 10 lakh fine on BJP for misguiding court was not liked by media… A Hindi daily buried this news on page 23 on 19August.

Justice for 257 but not for 900?

SC's two judges had divided views about the Tada Court verdict to hang Yakub Memon. A total of 240 eminent people including former judges pleaded for clemency but the very next day a larger bench of 3 judges confirmed the hanging of Memon. Media called for justice for 257. Quite fine. But why gag the voices demanding justice for 900 innocents killed in the 1992-93 anti-Muslim riots in Mumbai. Sri Krishna commission mentioned 31 police personnel were guilty in riots. Those policemen got promotion. How law takes its own course! Court give justice in one case and injustice in another.           S. Haque, Patna

Jamia Urdu

Please refer to your reply of a question raised by Mr. Lokendranth (email address: wherein you have not only misguided and misinformed the concerned person but have also leveled serious charges against Jamia Urdu Aligarh which is not only first distance education since 1939 of country but has rendered well documented educational services to the deprived masses of country. Please take note of what your have said in your replay that: What is the real position of Jamia Urdu certificates and is "Adeeb" equal to BA? Your reply is that "Jamia Urdu of Aligarh is an old private long distance education centre which has no official recognition from any state or Central government. It awards certificates for which no classes are held and only exams are conducted at various centres and these centres have been embroiled in controversies for allowing cheating and mass copying. They may claim Adeeb or Adeeb Mahir or Adeeb Kamil are equivalent to this or that degree but this is not the fact. There is an exception with Aligarh Muslim University where if you also pass AMU's English only papers of the High School and you have Adeeb certificate, you may get admission in the higher secondary school in some courses. Anyone claiming otherwise should be asked to produce an official document supporting his claim. For about two decades, the institution has been hijacked by unscrupulous rogue elements". In this connection, on behalf of the Jamia Urdu Aligarh I wish to point out that: 1. Jamia Urdu Aligarh is rendering educational services to the most deprived section of Indian society particularly Urdu speaking since 1939 through its more than one thousand centres spread across the country. 2. You have alleged that, "these centres have been embroiled in controversies for allowing cheating and mass copying". Will you please prove your charge of cheating and mass copying through any evidence? 3. You have charged that the degrees of Jamia Urdu Aligarh Adeeb, Adeeb Mahir or Adeeb Kamil are not equivalent or recognized by any state or central government. In factn, may [sic] State Universities and Central government has [sic] extended recognition Jamia Urdu course. 4. Most objectionable charge you have leveled is that "for about two decades, the institution has been hijacked by unscrupulous rogue elements". I am surprised on this allegation. Present Jamia Urdu Aligarh management society consists persons. Duly qualified to head it. 5. It is to inform you for putting the things straight that department of Personnel & Administration, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India has recognized Adeeb, Adeeb Mahir, Adeeb Kamil and Moallim-e-Urdu examinations for purpose of employment under central government vide it office memo no: 1402/2/78-Estt. (D) dated 28 June 1978. 6. Further I wish to inform you that Prof. Akhtarul Wasey Committee constituted by ministry HRD of Govt. of India had recommended in its Report to incorporate Jamia Urdu Aligarh into an Deemed university. 7. Further 87 universities/Boards are recognizing the Jamia Urdu Aligarh courses and degrees. 8. The Jamia Urdu Aligarh has most updated and modern curriculum presently and moreover has well oiled examination system with transparent monitoring. In this respect with reference to your allegations and facts put before you, I request you to please publish an apology on prominent space of your fortnightly otherwise Jamia Urdu Aligarh will be forced to take legal actions against you in a court of law.     I hope you will honour the request and will not repeat rumour mongering and leveling motivation false allegations.
Sincerely yours,

Jasim Mohammad, PhD
Director Jamia Urdu Aligarh Medical Road, Aligarh-202002

MG: We have published Mr Jasim Mohammad's letter in full. We stand by our comment. It is possible that some government authorities and some universities may be accepting Jamia Urdu certificates for jobs and enrolment in some courses on the strength of its long history which has been sullied by the people who illegally control this milli asset today. The writer claims that Jamia certificates are recognised, then why the constant protests, meetings and dharnas by persons holding 'Moallim Urdu' certificate. In 2011, Rajasthan government had derecognised Jamia Urdu certificates. There used to be a committee to retrieve the situation in Jamia Urdu. It was named 'Jamia Urdu Bazyabi Committee' and headed by late Saiyid Hamid with the membership of many including Syed Shahabuddin and myself. With Saiyid saheb's deteriorating health it became dormant. We are publishing below the joint statement of Muslim organisations which was published when the said committee was formed in 2001 (Zafarul-Islam Khan).

Statement on Jamia Urdu, Aligarh

New Delhi, 15 September, 2001: Three nationally eminent Muslim organizations namely, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, All India Milli Council and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind have issued a Joint Statement on the Crisis of Survival in Jamia Urdu, Aligarh. The Joint Statement is being issued by Mr. Syed Shahabuddin, ex-MP on their behalf. "We express our agony at the crisis of survival which the Jamia Urdu, Aligarh, a valuable heritage of the Urdu-speaking community, is facing today.  Presently, the Jamia Urdu has no Chancellor, no Pro-Chancellor, no Vice-Chancellor and no Pro-Vice-Chancellor. Administratively, the Managing Committee consists of the Registrar and two muscle-men, brought in by him, and their family members. All authority is concentrated in the hands of the Registrar who reportedly stands accused of personal aggrandizement, apart from being involved in various criminal and IT-evasion cases. He has not submitted Annual Reports or audited Annual Accounts to the Registrar of Societies and has been asked by the authorities to explain the deficit of nearly Rs. 8 crores. Financially, the institution is in doldrums and has not paid salaries to its staff for nearly 9 months and they are on a dharna. Academically, the answer books of the examinations conducted in the year 2000 have not been examined and proper results have been substituted by 'universal promotion'. The examination centres are reported to have been auctioned and there have been large-scale malpractices which have reduced the academic value of its Certificates and, thus, the employment potential of their holders. Several Boards, Universities and Governments have derecognized their Certificates. The downslide began when the Rules and Regulations of 1983 were fraudulently substituted in 1997 and all offices except that of Registrar were abolished and donor membership of Managing Committee was introduced. The new Rules and Regulations have not even been published. For the survival of the Jamia Urdu, the Registrar of Societies must urgently step in to remove the Registrar and restore the Rules and Regulations of 1983, so that a proper General Body may be constituted and new office-bearers be elected. We welcome the formation of JAMIA URDU BAZYABI COMMITTEE by eminent personalities of the Urdu-world and we call upon the Urdu-speaking community to come forward unitedly to save this unique institution.
